‘YOU CAN’T MAKE ME RUN’ TO 22 MINUTE 5KMS!

‘YOU CAN’T MAKE ME RUN’ TO 22 MINUTE 5KMS!

In November 2014 I turned up to Parkrun with my parents (I was 27 years old and a mother of one)! I ran that cold day, a ran the whole 5kms in a fairly respectable time of 38minutes. My parents would take me out once a week and I would stop and tell them they couldn’t make me run but little did I know this would be the start of a passion (maybe even an obsession).

My First Parkrun

I went on and off I went to my local Parkrun and signed up to a local 5mile ‘race’ in May 2015, at the time I was 9 weeks pregnant with my second child.

I ran all the way up to 30 weeks, my last run was a 10km race which I did in 68 minutes.

I came back post pregnancy to my beloved Parkrun, where as always I was welcomed with open arms. It still is a favourite place of mine.

2016 I RAN A 26:05 5KM

2017 I RAN A 25:10 5KM

By the end of 2017 I was running 2-3 times a week and had got myself up to 15km, so I signed up to Brighton Marathon and in preparation the Hampton Court half marathon.

This I think was my turning point, my driver, I ran the half marathon with a very good friend of mine and we raised money for the charity he has set up, we finished in under 2 hours and felt on top of the world!

15th April 2018, the start line of Brighton marathon, I was so scared, so worried, I had only managed 16 miles in training due to life and work challenges! When I look back I wasn’t ready for that day but I finished it just shy of 5 hours, I was completely exhausted but had unfinished business with the distance (I still do)

In 2019 I signed up to lots of races smashed all my goals for that year, including the greatest race on earth in the London Marathon for CLIC Sargent by the end of the year:

MY 5KM TIME WAS AT 21:50

MY 10KM TIME WAS AT 46:06

MY 1/2 MARATHON TIME WAS AT 1:46

2019 wasn’t all joy and 9 weeks (November 2019) before my wedding I got an IT band injury and didn’t run for nearly 7 weeks, worried I wouldn’t even walk to meet my husband! I had the best sport physio who helped me through that and who I now see every 4 weeks.

End of 2019/ start of 2020 I helped my club come 3rd in our local frostbite league, I love that as an individual sport we can still do things as a team!

So hear we are 2020, I managed to run a half marathon with my Dad, we had a plan to get him round in sub2 and we got a 1:47 time. I also raced 20 miles a week before lock down (crazy to think now). I thought I might loose some motivation but instead the passion has grown and I run 6-8 times a week (coached by my wonderful friend) resting 1 day a week.
